I've seen tons of those "Majolica" repro pitchers lately, another common one being the pelican, and all of them say they're antiques.
Somebody is good at ceramics...but also a liar.

Yeah, there was a pelican too .... maybe the ceramics he uses are really old, but they're new repros. fish.sml

In almost all cases these barbotine repros are made by the original factory (or its successor company), as a standard stock item. They're easy to tell from the turn of the century originals - the details of the moulding are less crisp, the colours are very different, usually cruder and brighter, and the glaze has an entirely different character. They are in most case clearly differently marked on the base, and are not made to deceive.

Its quite obvious from the bidding levels which ones on eBay are repros and which are originals.

They're all from the same seller, too, someone who claims to be an American in France "for the next 6 mos" so they can't answer e-mails.

What tipped me off was that the same 3 pitchers keep reappearing as authentic antiques from the same seller... hammer.sml
