Some are fairly self-evident. Others are more mysterious.

Is Grey Boy named after his cat? DG after his monkey? CeeGee after a favorite uncle or something? (Since it's "Gent," I know it can't be self-referential.)

Sound off. You show me yours.
Le Gimp
Gimp / Gimpy : Cripple, Hobble, or lame

Named by my daughter after I got hit by a car while riding a bicycle back in 98. (1) I don't fly, (2) I don't make a good hood orniment, (3) I'm not superman.

As a result of the incident, I lost 3/4" off my right leg after it did not heal correctly(broke in 9 places).

So, I'm the gimp.
Grey Boy
I have 2 cats, both grey, and a desire to make everyone spell it with an E.
And Mr. Cash is the Man in Black, I can only wish.........
Lars....obvious.
Louched Liver, hmm......
Green Eyes, absinthe, or a reference to your deep, mysterious, sensual, orbs.......
faustus
faustus,
obvious reference to the play by Christopher Marlowe. If you're not familiar, it's the age-old tale: Dr. Faustus sells his soul to the devil, enjoys a period of extreme fame, prosperity, and special magical abilities such as teleporting, etc., with the help of a demon. When his time is up, he is too consumed with guilt and self-loathing to repent his sins and be saved. Instead, he is torn to pieces and his soul carried to Hell.

Even for the non-religious, it's a good reminder that sometimes humility and the grace it engenders is precious beyond any of our distorted delusions of personal pride, whether manifested in self-destroying guilt or cold arrogance.
greeneyes
yelclap.gif Wow!

Now I can quit wondering whether Gimpy wears a leather hood all of the time. What a horror story, though.

Thanks to the Boy in Grey, I get it now.

The Goethe Girl gave me way more background than I'd hoped for. I always find it charming when you wax philosophical, Faustus. wub.gif
DGLeadbetter
Alas, mine is not so cool.

DG = my first 2 initials.

Monkey = cool pic I found on the internet, augmented w/absinthe by Rimmy.

I wanted something a little cooler and different than my old Avatar from the old Lounge:

DG
greeneyes
"Green Eyes" is the title of two songs I like a great deal. One is done by the Dorsey Orchestra and another by Nick Cave. It's a tip of the hat to my jazz-bitch roots.

Also, yeah, I've got olive irises (sans pimento). I like the bit about the "deep, mysterious, sensual, orbs," though — meow!

That monkey's not you!?!?

Oh ... he was talking about YOU.
My bad. I thought he was referencing my "boys."

Well, you know what they say about giving a monkey a typewriter ....

My Grandfather left a bunch of vinal when he passed, brilliant stuff.

We cats can poetic, when not sober.

And you can lick your own balls, too. Sadly, monkeys cannot.

DG
Grey Boy
Benifits of the species.
greeneyes
I'm hoping your boys aren't green, DG. Even for a monkey, that's a sign that something's gone awry.
Louched Liver
Louched Liver.
See avatar.

Figgered mine was louched through
and through. Then just had to find a
gross enough picture.
Fluffy G
Fluffy G
Originally I was thinking of the MC Pee Pants character from ATHF, but I couldn't remember the name. The only name I could remember was Fluffy G (which turned out to be a rap singer from a different adult swim cartoon.) I changed my avatar to Peepants later when I found out that I picked the wrong name. Oh well. post-6-1069831687.gif

Before PeePants I had an avatar of Lain, and for a couple of days I had pixie boy.

That's the exact Lain image I was going to use when I first signed up at the old Lounge. I actually uploaded it and then changed my mind and went for something less gender-specific. Of course, within two or three posts, the Mayor had sniffed me out as a XX, anyway.
Masque
Out of all the E.A. Poe I have read, I liked the Masque of the Red Death the best. I have always liked stories where people get what they deserve. Liked the spelling and it has been my general use name for a long time.

Moonhawk is another. To dramatic sounding for everyday use though.
Larspeart
Most of you folks know mine.
Rimbaud
I've been using variants of "Rimbaud" for about 5 years now, originally on an early version of Kallisti's forum. I used to be "20th Century Rimbaud", and then "21st Century Rimbaud", but I thought that was stupid after a while, so now it's just "Rimbaud" (or "Rimmy" or "Rimmeroo" or "Rimbo" or "Rimmer" or "Rammer" or...).
Porkio
Funny, I thought about a Lain avatar briefly too. What a great animation.

The etymology (or is it entymology?) of my forum name comes from my real last name. The mayor decided my last name sounded like "Swine wand", and then it was changed to "pig poker" as that's literally what a "swine wand" is (if such a thing were to exist). When the old forum tanked, I decided it would be wise not to use my real name, so I switched it to Scorpio for no reason other than it was the first thing that came into my head, and it was shortly thereafter changed by the Illuminati to "Porkio", so it's back to the pig references again.

I'm quite happy with it actually. Ain't a meal if it don't squeal.
DrinkSlinger
It's obvious. kimouss.gif

Haha, and I was sober when I wrote that, surprisingly enough. Although I was also insanely tired.

Now, that would be an interesting research project. Ever notice that people, when they've been sleep-deprived for a while, act sort of drunk? I wonder if there is any similarity in the physiological pathways.

Sleep has always intrigued me. Something we take for granted much of the time, but know very little about.
DGLeadbetter
Hmmm... good point. I'll sleep on that one.

DG
greeneyes
I've been told that severe sleep deprivation can cause hallucinations. There must be some mucking about with neurotransmitters when we do without sleep. I find sleep interesting, too. I wish I'd had time to study it.
lysistrata
Unlike most other people who have asked, I'm pretty sure at least some of you are familiar with Aristophanes' play, "Lysistrata", so I won't bore you with a summary of it.

I first read said play when I was about 13, &, being a rebellious little shit (not much changes) identified strongly with the combination of anti-war/ women's rights/ sex/ bawdy comedy. Also, I'm a big fan of Todd Rundgren & about the time I started doing a lot of writing, he had just put out an album with the single "Lysistrata". So, when I had to choose a name for my music copyrights to publish under, I chose "Lysistrata Productions". In the years since, whenever I started up yet another attempt at self-sufficiency, it too has been named Lysistrata. Seemed natural to continue to use it once I got on the internet.

It's a cool name, because not only does it make a political statement, I can always tell the level of education someone has by if they ask me what it means, or mis- pronounce it. Every now & then, I even meet another Todd R fan!
Absinthe_1900
Mine doesn't really mean too much of anything, other than I wanted a different ID than the one I've had for years on Kallisti's forum.

Entymology is the study of insects.
CelticGent
very funny, peepers.

although you of all people should know that online personalities don't always mirror real life.

i started using celticgent after years of using a comical one that many people had different takes on: "pimphuge" once all of the pimp crap started getting popular in the media, people assumed i was some 13 year old vanilla ice dipshit who thought i was a player.

Of course they do. It's just that sometimes they're sort of a funhouse mirror.
Nepenthes
Mine comes from a love of carnivorous plants, and in particular the tropical pitcher plant (Nepenthes).
1888
My name is Eighteen. My father’s uncle’s brother’s middle name was eighty and then my moms...

No.

1888 was just such a cool year for artsy-historical freeeks as myself.

Absinthe, La Tour Eiffel sans 1 year... Le Moulin Rouge, The best (artistic) year of Van Gogh's life... Satie, JACK THE RIPPER!

That year seems to encompass (most of) my interests!

My surname is Batemaster. My first name is Jack and I was an officer in the Navy.
CelticGent
is it true that there's no secrets between sailors?
louchefabrik
I originally started on LL with an avatar of my Versinthe fountain surrounded by my then-collection of oil-mix( oh, the shame) absinthes and a couple of louching glasses under the spigots.

It was my louche factory! Und auf Deutsch----Louchefabrik!
