Full Version: Alandia - Suisse La Blue?
The Misfit Absinthe Forum > The Town Square > Commercial Sources

I did a search and couldn't find anything on this, so sorry if I missed something. Nice little community you have here, by the way - looks to be a good resource for true absinthe connoisseurs (which I am not claiming to be, YET).

Anyways, I haven't tried TOO many absinthes, yet, but so far I definitely prefer the Princess' exorbinently priced wares (shocking I know), but you know how that goes.... Then I came across this listing for something that looks to be a Swiss La Blue from another source and was wondering if anyone knew the story on it.

The "la blue" in question is Kubler. Some like it, some do not, but the word is that they have improved their processes and are now offering a quality commercial absinthe.

The sample of Kubler I had was really good. If you want to buy it, ask about gassification, as it may help.

Thanks. Just Kubler (not that I have had it, just judging by the reviews...), eh? I thought that was too good to be true. Damnation!

Funny - if I had checked the pictures it would have been obvious.

Don't worry about it.

Most of us have been on the quest for suisse La Bleue at some point in our absinthe learning curve. I've gone off on serveral tirades about it, but I fear they were left behind at the old site. I'll do recap for you...

Suisse La Bleue, or La Bleue is a name for an absinthe made illegaly in Switzerland. It's not a recipe, a batch, or anything that is controlled by anyone. It's as vague as the title "absinthe".

The taste and quality can range from amazing, to plain old licorice boring. Unfortunately the boring is more frequent than amazing. Most of the LB I've tasted was pretty boring, and at least one was a fake (not even absinthe).
Since the hubub surrounding this varietal of absinthe is so grand, there are many unscrupulous people trying to make a buck. If you buy LB from someone that is not actually the "Farmer" in switzerland making the stuff, the probability of getting ripped off is fairly high... and even then you get no oath of quality.

So, in summary, LB is very rarely good enough to buy. It's even rarer to find a "good enough to buy" LB at a decent price. Don't believe the hype.

There are other reliable, and affordable absinthes out there that will give you a good taste experience. Look to LDF for their emile line, and look for the Kubler...

No prob. That is what we are here for.

Well, that and making fun of ABG.

Heheheheh.

Actually my new "four-pack" sample just arrived - plain UE 68, Sapin, La Blanche, and the Gentianne. Unfortunaley, food poisoning arrived a day or two earlier, so they have been taunting me the whole time. And as I discovered last night adding more poison (alcomohol) on top can set back your recovery. My one glass (La Blanche) wasn't nearly as good, though. Maybe I just need to get the mix right. Trust me, I eagerly await not having to pay ridiculous amounts of money for an absinthe I really like.

Mixing the correct water and sugar ratio can make all the difference for your particular taste.
I find that with most blanche absinthe a smaller ratio of sugar is needed. Too much sugar tends to squelch out some of the nicer, more subtle attributes.

For the emile blanche try a 1:3 water ratio with about 1/2 a sugar cube.

Look around the forums long enough and you'll eventually find even more than one source of interesting artisanal products... I can't say more but anyway, the more effort you put at the task of finding a rare and fine product, the greater your appreciation will be.
qeantk
You wouldn't perhaps be referring to a HG like the Moonman, would you Wolfgang? ;) :) 'cause a FNG like me would never have joined looking to track someone down who might know more about that. *nudge nudge* *wink wink* Know what I mean Know what I mean?

"Swiss La Blue"

I haven't heard that term in a while now.

I have to start hanging around ABG more often. . .

There is, after all, only an ENTIRE THREAD already devoted to Moonman's artisinal absinthe.

But then you'd have to be willing to use the search function.

Thanks to Erics 5 minute curtain call, my E.T. is on its way! I can't wait, my last H.G. was not fun.

Any such newbies as would do such a thing would probably be willing and able to do so. I could imagine them just not being in a rush to do so, if they were already well stocked, taking some time to settle in, and only mentioning it because it came up. :p

Hypothetically speaking, of course. Done a little homework, have you gean?

Excellent. The fans are starting to be a majority over here...

''perhaps be referring to a HG like the Moonman, would you...''

That`s one but not the only one I was refering to. My point is ''there`s many options for those who take the time to look around''.

Anyway, I`ll shut up now or it will surely be held against me.

Yes, that quote came from the Dept. of Redundancy department.
