Let's just say we don't play the anthem very often (and one of our ministers reminded the public that public playings of recorded versions of the anthem aren't free of rights unless the band's been dead for quite a while, just to make sure that everyone Gets It).

Anthem lyrics have become the pinnacle of stupidity in most countries (unless 19th century rethoric still appeals to you, that is). Most Belgians know the lyrics as "pom pom pom pom pooom, pom pom pom pom pooom pom pompompom,...".

But at least Belgium is a fairly recent creation and can point out they copycatted their constitution and the silly anthem from other countries -- most notably France and yes, the United States .

Well, to be fair, we got the good deal, as the US was mainly used to base the constitution on, not the anthem.
