It says my ISP is banned. Anyone else use AOL? (I know - AOL sucks.)
lambchop
How can an ISP be banned from VIEWING?
Off. Jack Batemaster
ISPs own blocks of IP numbers. You can ban all of them by using wild cards.

I'm on AOL. And I can see it just fine.
Porkio
Can you assign yourself a new IP? Try this one: 10.224.31.135.

That's my temp work IP and I can view the Absinthe Liars guide fine.

I can't assign a new IP now. I'll try it when I get home.

I am really sad that I can't view ABG. It's such a grate resource for Filterated Czeckerland Xit knowledge.

Winston is a sad cunt. If I ever see him in person, I'll punch him in the throat. Hard.

Yes, a webmaster can block entire ISPs, or even countries, from viewing a site. My better half runs a few discussion boards (no, she's not Winston) and she has resorted to this a couple of times to this to ban people who insist on being a pain in the ass.

But you would only do this with a small ISP, it doesn't makes sense to block all of AOL because you'd be blaocking a lot of traffic you do want.

(Yes, we techie snobs look down our noses at AOL like it was Czeckerland Filterated Czeckerland Xit, but a lot of folks who are not techie snobs but are otherwise fine people are on AOL.)

But to a determined lurker or harasser, this is easily circumvented by switching a different ISP, accessing from a library or internet cafe, or even dialing up to another country if your entire country is blocked.

what's this "library" you speak of?

Well, back in the olden days before the Internet was invented by Al Gore, there were these things called "books" that people would read for fun and information.

But books cost money, and since there was no Internet, there also was no Kazaa. So to read books for free, you had to go to a Library.

But then the Internet and Kazaa was invented, and now people can read their computers instead. But computers and ISP accounts cost money too. So libraries installed computers for people who couldn't afford computers, or just get off looking at porn when strangers can watch over their shoulders.

Make sense?
