Don't.
Well, not often. And only LdF.
Do I support LdF in their quest to
make a commercial brand that
rivals good HG?
Very fuckin' much YES.

Yep, but only LdF as well.

Yup, about half the time, and usually from LdF, although I do try to keep a bottle of La Fee handy at all times for a craving-fix.
I don't buy any other commercial brands, at this point, but Seggara has my interest peaked with their new offering. I may grab a bottle of that. Maybe.

La Fee was my first. I have fond memories of it, but haven't bought it since.
So how does it stack up once you tried LDF and others? I still think it has the best appearance and louche (a little artifical color never hurt anyone). I also really like the ever-so-slight blueish louche of UE La Blanche. Everything else I've had is something in between.

Most people agree that La Fee is probably the best oil mix.
The LDF products are the closest to HG and they seem to be always working on finding better quality products, so we may see something close to an HG in the future. If we do, I'm sure it will be LDF.

I'm down to just buying commercial from LDF, I'm curious about the new Segarra as well, but I haven't bought any of the other "commercial brands" since 2002.
As for artisanal.............

I found La Fee pretty disappointing. Not nearly as good as, say, Lasala.
Occasionally, I buy some Lasala or Montana. I probably wouldn't, if I had to pay to have it shipped, but as it is standing there on the shelf of a local liquor store at a reasonable price, it's nice to have a bottle for everyday use.

My HG pipeline doesn't flow enough to supply me with the recommended daily allowance of product that my body needs.

Like almost everyone else here, LdF represents the vast majority of my commercial absinthe buying these days. The list of commercial products that I repeat-buy grows ever shorter, though. Kubler 57 and La Fee are now the only two non-LdF commercials that I routinely re-stock.
I'm really enjoying the White Fairy.. IMHO, it's in the same ballpark as a good La Bleue.

Alright, I hate to twist the subject, but think I can kill 2 stones with one bird in a barrel,
I am still a fan of Absenta, especially Deva/NS! I still usually have at least one glass of either one each time I drink. I feel lucky enough to have gotten in on the HG pipeline, but feel the español is a cheap break with a lotta flava! Plus, with it being lower % I like it better during the week, as I can drink more without the hangover.
Fougerolles is good, but has a bit of an off flavor and is a bit more bland than I'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, it's good, and it will get drank, but I don't think the 3 bottle deal was the greatest idea for me.
So here's the deal. I will trade a FULL, unopened bottle of Fougerolles (yes, the seal is intact, it is the normal color, and will taste just the same it did when leaving France) for a full or nearly full bottle of Deva 50, Lasala, NS55, Montana 50, MariMayans 55, Absinthus, Tabu 50, or any other high-anise absinthe that is of the lower alcohol level that you tried a few glasses of and has been sitting on the shelf ever since. PM me if anyone wants to trade!
That being said, HG does the spoiling, but I'm still glad for the developed taste of shoddy high-star anise spanishsinthe oil mixes!

I'm not a huge fan of the Fougerolles either. I'll take the Un Emiles over it any day. It's OK but not all that it could be. Definite work in progress.
As Spanish absentas go, I may have to limit myself to Segarra from now on. I once thought that NS70 was a tasty alternative. Unfortunately, I tried a glass the other night for the first time in a while and could barely finish it. That star anise left a really bad(iane) aftertaste. I'm looking forward to trying the new Segarra 68 soon. Hopefully, it's worth the ridiculous price.

I had the identical experience last week.. I figured it had been a while since I had NS, so I poured myself a glass, and had a hard time getting it all down.. Back when there just wasn't anything more readily available than the Spanish brands, it was one of my favorites. Oh, well.. tastes change I suppose.
Regarding the Segarra 68, until I can determine that it's something other than a hi-test version of the 45, I'm not biting (or sipping) for that price.

I guess that I've already bit (but still waiting to sip) regardless of the price. I ordered a couple bottles of the 68 as soon as I heard about it.

That used to be my strategy, but I think I've become Jade- the only REAL Burnt™ absinthed (no pun intended). I
could be swayed by two little words: "different recipe", but so far I haven't heard them, and that's not worth $180 for a single bottle, (or even $165 each for two) of Segarra.

You're probably right but that's what disposable income's all about.
Hell, with a nice tax refund on the way, a couple bottles of Moonman might be right around the corner as well.

Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken may be difficult to sway, though. Money is undoubtedly not going to help, given the 3.8 billion euro valuation of her Heineken shares (and that's ignoring how much money her husband has).

Since we've only tried the French absinthes (in commercial products) & since FSC's recent e-mail piqued my interest at the same time that we had some cash, we now have 2 Spanish abs's winging their way (actually, probably staggering their way on donkey back since we opted for regular shipping) to us. Hopefully trying some Spanish will help us gain more experience in the learning curve area.
Currently on the shelf:
LdF: UE 68, UE Gentiane, UE LaBlanche, White Fairy, Fougerolles
Muse Verte 68
La Fee
ET #9
In transit or pre-ordered:
Larsand
Segarra 45
MM Larmes de Lunes
MM Verte #32
So, yeah, we buy commercial, altho if we had access to a few
other HG suppliers, we probably would buy a lot less.

By the bye, eh…does anyone know a supplier that will ship La Fee to Canaduh for a decent price?
Eabsinthe says : C anada
We are currently unable to ship to C anada, as all orders containing alcohol are being returned. We are still able to ship absinthe accessories, books etc.
We can buy Hill’s off the shelf here(ON) but we can’t buy La Fee, which costs less. WTF? Must be because we might hurt ourselves with all that extra thoughzoon...
