So, what did you do this evening?
Me?
1 glass of Swizzle
Cook dinner:
1 rack of lamb (garlic & rosemary)
lamb chops with dry rub (not Lambchop with dry rub, unless BaaBaaDoc did it)
oven roasted potatoes (red, yukon & purple) with roasted peppers, onions & herbs
green beens w/basil
broccolini
1 glass Moonman 29
Eat dinner
Prepare dessert:
fruit salad with raspberries, blackberries, mango, strawberries & watermelon
1 glass Swizzle
So far.....
Absinthe was consumed. Lambs were eaten. But no absinthe-drinking lambs were injured.

computer, tv, computer, tv, computer, tv, microwave chicken strips, computer, tv, eat ice cream out of the container, tv, computer, drink coke out of can, computer, drink milk out of carton, computer, tv, computer, sleep, then work, rinse, dry, repeat...

Busy day brewing. Didn't finish cleaning up until around 6pm, and I was too tired to cook so I picked up some pizza.
Pizza and beer. Good combination. More beer. Typing on the computer, watching "cold case files", more beer, more typing.
Pretty booring I guess, but it's my life.

Ginantonics with Chop and a couple of old friends. Everybody passed out at around midnight. Had to prod Chop into making it up the steps.
Now, I will make eggs benedict for all and sundry.
Ahh! Brunch.
I did not rub Lambchop with wine and rosemary, although it sounds like an appealing idea.

For all these posts on V-Day, very few romantic activities. I would have expected more from this crowd.
My boyfriend made me dinner last night. BBQ steak & ravioli, the only two things he can cook. To his credit, it was the best steak & ravioli ever.
He also had on hand 6 bottles of merlot (!), a quart of Jamesons and a 6-pack of cider. Aside from absinthe, those are my favorite adult beverages and he wanted to make sure I had plenty to choose from!
I'm in love

A glass of fou-juice in the afternoon.
Later, a little get-together with some friends. One of them brought some insanely good wine.
Now I'm at work. I've got this part time night work, and I'm drunk. So much the better.

3) did I mention numbers 1 and 2?

I wasn't referring to your evening...it seemed romantic enough that you were cooking what sounded like a gourmet meal. And after knowing you & your wife have your hands full with a child and another on the way, it's even more romantic.

Not here, if I did anything remotely V-Day like she would have done a Lambchop on me (i.e. kick me in the balls).
She (and I) like it better when something romantic is done for no reason at all and not when Hallmark tells us it's time to do so.
Otherwise we did our usual, had dinner, some drinks, listened to some music, and went to bed. Nothing late since I had to work today.

I bought my wife a $300 ruby ring, cause I wanted to do something different and I don't do jewelry. We have a long history of early gift giving... I had my b-day present for two weeks so far. So, she got it a week ago. Oh, and a heart shaped pizza. (Wierd, yes. But well loved... don't mind me.)
In retrospect... the ring probably was not a good idea.

Well, hell, if we're all living vicariously here:
Maturin actually did NOT go skiing on Valentine's Day, so we (sort of) got to spend a day together. Except I had to work.
So we went out to a crappy breakfast, & then on to the jewelers where I had commissioned a custom opal ring for Maturin. We approved the wax mold, sized M's finger, & while there he purchased an equally pricey black pearl & amethyst pendant for me. (THANKS!).
Then I logged into work, while he cleaned birdcages. Then he went out & got himself some new glasses while I continued telling people "no, we can't be there until tomorrow, we're booked today".
Work done, we cleaned up & went out to our fave restaurant (see the Tipping thread if you want info on that) where we were the envy of all other diners because the management gave us *the* best table, right in front of the fireplace. It was a slightly sad dinner because our favorite waiter will not be there any longer, so it was our last time being served by him. Tipped accordingly, & wished him well in Las Vegas.
Then we came home & crashed out.
Romantic enough for everyone?

How well you know my Darling Sweetie-Pie! She don't go in for that. She made me swear a long time ago that I would never, ever buy her a diamond of any kind for any reason (up to and including marriage). We made a deal to take any money that I might thus have spent on overpriced rocks and eat lobsters every night for a year instead.
Which is not to say that we don't do sweet, romantic things for each other. I'm flying her to Amsterdam for her birthday. But Valentine's day is stupid.
(For the record, I like the Japanese (!) Valentine's Day tradition much better. On Valentine's Day in Japan, girls are supposed to give boxes of chocolate to the boys they like. A month later, there is another equally fabricated holiday called White Day (for some reason, they use the English words for this) wherein boys may repay the favor if they so choose.)

I couldn't agree more and that's what I told the BF when he asked what I wanted for V-Day. So it was even more special that he still went out of his way.
At the same time, I must admit that I enjoy any excuse for romance. I love collecting vintage valentines & cheesy shit like that.

Oh yes, we are going together.
It's our last chance to have a little impromptu vacation before the Big Move. And, as our birthdays are so close to each other, it can be a celebration for both occasions.
Alas, the Professor begins his New Job on his birthday, which is sucky but also sort of cool.
And I seem to have a reputation for hating Valentine's Day, which is prolly because I said "I hate Valentine's Day" over and over again. But I would like to point out that I

Got most of the welding done. I still have two gusset plates to weld in place, but it looks like it will hold. It is kind of like an arbor press, with a very long base so I can clamp it to the work bench. It uses a hydrolic jack to apply pressure to cast lead shells to hold the barrel. Then I use a big 'action wrench' to grab the rifle receiver to unscrew it.
That is the theory any way. Usually it inivolves a 4# hammer in practice.

and sometimes a toruch.
